RHS ExCEL Winners Shade Pratt, Andrew Hausmann

Rosemount High School has nominated Folashade Pratt and Andrew Hausmann for the ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) Award.

Sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League, ExCEL is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors.. Students who are active in fine arts and/or athletic activities, who show leadership qualities, and who are model citizens in their community are eligible for the award.

ExCEL Award recipients are selected through a multi-level process that involves League member schools and an independent panel of judges from schools throughout Minnesota. Award recipients will be recognized on KMSP-TV during the Girls’ and Boys’ State Hockey and Basketball tournaments.

Shade is the daughter of Annie and James Pratt. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society and is on the “A” Honor Roll. She is a four-year letter winner in soccer starting with her 8th grade year. She was named All-State Honorable Mention her sophomore year and All-State and 2nd Team All-Metro her junior year. She has received the Ms. Offense award the last two years. She played basketball as a freshman and was named Most Improved. Shade also participates in track and field where she was named All Conference. She was a state tournament participant; placing 4 th in the 400m, 5th in the 4 x 400m and 9th in the 400m. She is a member of the Pep Band and the Jazz Band and received an “excellent” rating at the solo and ensemble contest. She is active in her church donating her time to work in the nursery, preparing communion, playing in the band and helping at the Simpson Shelter sorting and distributing clothing. She also volunteers as a youth soccer coach and helping at soccer clinics.

Andrew Hausmann is the son of Helen and the late Peter Hausmann. Andrew is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the “A” Honor Roll all semesters of his high school career. Andrew has been involved in Irish Football for three years and was a member of the Lake Conference Championship Team, Section Championship Team and State Semi-finalist Team in 2008. He was named Player of the Week five times. Andrew has also participated in track and field for the past two years. He has been named All Conference Honorable Mention. He was a member of the State Championship Team, State True Team Championship Team, Section Championship Team and Lake Conference Championship Team in 2009. He is a two-time letter winner. Andrew has been involved in Olympic Style Weighlifting, placing 2nd at the State Championships and a National Meet Qualifier in 2009. In addition, he is in Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Vivace and received a superior rating at the solo and ensemble contest. He has been involved in Pep Band and earned 2 superior ratings and 1 excellent rating in the band solo and ensemble contests. Andrew is active in his church as an alter server. He also volunteers to drive his brother’s soccer team, does raking in the fall and has helped at Feed My Starving Children.

“The ExCEL Award program is an excellent opportunity for high school juniors who have excelled to receive statewide recognition for their leadership and community service,” said Rosemount High School Assistant Principal Michael Manning.
