Dear Rosemount High School Community Members,
As we enter the final five weeks of the fall trimester, it is time for another quick update from Rosemount High School.
November is the month where students close out most of their fall trimester course work. When we reach the end of the month, only fall trimester final exam week will remain.
With this in mind, November is an important month for students to continue or improve their efforts in all of their courses. Encourage your student(s) to finish the trimester hard. They should check to make sure they have all of their course work up to date and take care of all new course work that comes their way. As you know, our absence rates have been higher than normal during October due to Influenza Like Illness. Students who have missed school should especially take care to make sure they are caught up on all of their course work. If you have concerns about your child’s progress in a class, it is the perfect time to check SchoolView and/or contact teachers by email. Encourage your son(s)/daughter(s) to do everything in their power to finish off their courses with their best effort.
There are some important events coming up in November.
On Saturday, November 7, our school district will offer a free “Parent Education Conference” from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Eastview High School. The Keynote Speaker will be William Doherty, Ph.D. who will speak on the topic “Too Fast with Too Much – How to be a Grounded Parent in a Crazy World”. The Conference will offer a variety of breakout sessions regarding topics of interest for parents. For more information and to register, visit www.district196.org/ce or call 651-423-7920. Childcare for children ages 2+ is available for $10 per family. Childcare registration is required in advance.
On Monday, November 9, students will attend a homeroom where they will be given their winter trimester course schedules. This homeroom will mark the start of “Winter Trimester Schedule Review Week”. During the week of November 9, students interested in adjusting their winter trimester schedules may do so (on a seats available basis) by completing a request for schedule change form available from the guidance department.
Schedule change requests outside of this time period will be considered on an emergency basis only. Visit page ii of the 2009-2010 Registration Guide for more information regarding the schedule change process at our school. The Registration Guide can be found at http://www.district196.org/rhs/academics/regguide0910/intro.pdf.
In very early December, students will conclude their fall course work by taking final exams on Wednesday, December 2 and Thursday, December 3. During final exam days we use an alternate schedule. Classes meet in two hour blocks with periods 2, 4, 5, and 6 meeting December 2nd and periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 meeting December 3rd. Report cards will be distributed to students in a special homeroom on Thursday, December 17. Together, let’s support our students as they enter the home stretch of the fall term.
In my second year as principal, I continue to be amazed at the tremendous level of talent and effort shown by our students throughout the school year both in and out of the classroom. Last Monday I presented our five National Merit Scholar Commended Students to our Board of Education. Our Marching Band earned their fourth consecutive state championship. Our girl’s swim team, girl’s tennis team, and girl’s cross country team all qualified for state tournament competition. Our football team will play for the section championship at 7:00 p.m. at Eastview High School on Friday of this week. Beyond these success stories, what is perhaps most impressive, is the class and leadership displayed by so many of our students, athletes, and performers on a regular basis throughout the fall.
We are off to a great start at Rosemount High School. I look forward to seeing you at events as we cap off the fall and enter into the winter season. As we begin the final month of the fall trimester, let’s all encourage our students to give their very best efforts.
Go Irish!
