District Middle Schools Rock The Future City Regional Competition!
Five district Middle Schools sent teams to the Future City Regional Competition at the University of Minnesota on January 17, 2015. The Future City Competition is a national, project-based learning experience where students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade imagine, design, and build cities of the future. The theme of this year’s competition was urban agriculture. All teams work with a teacher and an engineer mentor to complete the tasks as part of the competition.
District teams did extremely well at the competition! The River Valley Team from Valley Middle School placed third overall and The Seattle Team from Blackhawk Middle School placed second overall. Additionally, teams from Rosemount Middle School, Scott Highlands Middle School, and Valley Middle School won special awards. The River Valley team from Valley Middle School also won the prestigious Student Choice Award.
Thanks to the teachers and engineers who supported the student teams from Blackhawk Middle School, Dakota Hills Middle School, Rosemount Middle School, Scott Highlands Middle School, and Valley Middle School. For more information contact the Middle School GT Coordinators or district lead GT teacher, Pam McDonald.
