Student Transportation
District 196 owns and operates a fleet of approximately 200 buses and employs drivers, chaperones and othersupport staff to safely transport more than 20,000 students to and from school each day.
Beginning in fall 2011 service distances for transportation will be increasing by one-half mile, to 1 mile and further from school for elementary students and 1.5 miles and further for middle school and high school students. Minnesota law requires school districts to provide transportation to any student who lives 2 miles and further from their assigned school.
Fee-for-Service Option
The registration deadline for fee-for-service busing has now passed and registration is closed in order to organize routes for the beginning of the school year.
The full registration process will re-open on October 1, 2011 for anyone interested in participating in the fee-for-service busing option during the 2011-2012 school year but did not register prior to July 15. Prior to October 1, limited registrations will be considered on a space available basis using existing bus stop locations. Questions can be emailed to the transportation department or by calling 651-423-7685.
