All parents of incoming kindergarten students are required to complete a registration process at their neighborhood elementary school.
Steps in the Process
The process for registering a child for kindergarten requires the following steps:
(Optional) Magnet School Application – if you would like your child to attend one of the three magnet schools—Cedar Park, Diamond Path, Glacier Hills—a completed application must be received by the required due date. For more information visit our magnet schools section on this website.
(Optional) Kindergarten Plus Registration – if you are interested in the optional, extended-day Kindergarten Plus program, please visit our kindergarten plus page on the District 196 Community Education website.
Registration – this is an information exchange at the elementary school your
child will be attending, where parents supply required information about their
child and schools provide information about kindergarten. You’ll need to bring
your child’s birth certificate, proof of immunizations to date, and results of your
child’s early childhood screening.
Orientation – this is an opportunity for parents to get more familiar with the school their kindergarten student will be attending. The letter you receive from
your school provides more specific information.
