Health Services

Medical toolsThe Nursing Department supports a healthy learning environment for all students and staff. Each District 196 school has the services of a licensed school nurse during the school day. School nurses provide a variety of services, including health screenings for vision, hearing, scoliosis and blood pressure, administering required immunizations, dispensing daily medications to students, comforting students who become ill during the school day, and providing CPR and first aid training to students.

School nurses also work in conjunction with a local health care provider to offer annual sports physicals during the summer months that are required for students to participate in school-sponsored athletics.

Each year, District 196 school nurses handle more than half a million total student visits or approximately 2,500 student visits each school day. For more information, email District Nursing Center Coordinator Sally Cole, or call her at 651.423.7909.
