About Our School
Dakota Hills opened in 1989 and is part of an expansive educational facility set in the wooded hills of Eagan and surrounded by a large athletic complex. While attached to Eagan High School, Dakota Hills functions separately and serves 1300 students in grades 6-8.
At Dakota Hills, we are committed to ensuring a positive, student-centered environment and to providing an excellent educational experience for all students. Our staff members truly enjoy working at the middle level and strive to make personal connections with individual students. Our teacher team concept (houses), our home-base advisory program and our WEB orientation program all help make a large school feel small and contribute to a positive school climate.
Our staff is committed to academic excellence and sets high standards and expectations for academic achievement. Teachers work closely together in both house and department teams to meet the needs of individual students and engage students in learning activities that are meaningful, relevant, challenging and fun.
Students are encouraged to be involved in a variety of athletic, fine arts and club opportunities offered at Dakota Hills. We are proud that not only do our students achieve at a high level in the classroom, but that we consistently have a high percentage of our student body participating in cocurricular activities.
Also vital to the success of Dakota Hills is our supportive parent community. Parents are welcome to be involved through volunteer opportunities, site council and the parent booster club. Parents stay abreast of school news by signing up for the Dakota Hills list service, visiting the school’s website and monitoring their child’s academic progress via SchoolView, our online grade book. Our strong parent support can also be seen each year as attendance at our scheduled, student-led conferences consistently is near 97 percent.
