Integration and Educational Equity

ethnicityIn June 2004, District 196 was notified by the Minnesota Department of Education that two schools, Glacier Hills Elementary and Cedar Park Elementary, were racially isolated, requiring the district to develop and submit an Integration and Educational Equity Plan.  The initial three-year plan was approved by the Commissioner of Education. Glacier Hills Elementary is no longer identified as a racially isolated school.

The 2008-11 Integration and Educational Equity Plan was approved on April 14 by the School Board and has been submitted to the Minnesota Department of Education for approval. The Integration and Educational Equity Plan was developed by a 24-member Community Collaboration Council that consisted of parents, teachers and other district staff. A series of 16 focus groups were also conducted across the district to gather input from parents, students and staff on the development of the plan. The Integration and Educational Equity Plan budget is approved on an annual basis by the Minnesota Department of Education.
