Voters elect Coulson, Roseen and Angrimson to School Board

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – Voters in Independent School District 196 re-elected incumbent School Board members Art Coulson and Mike Roseen, and voted in challenger Craig Angrimson over incumbent Gary Huusko, according to unofficial results of the Nov. 7 school district election.

Coulson, an Apple Valley resident, led all vote-getters with 2,779 votes in winning election to his third full term on the board after being appointed to fill a vacancy in 2008. Roseen, also of Apple Valley, finished in second place with 2,708 votes to win election to his eighth term on the board.

Apple Valley resident Angrimson claimed the third open board seat with 2,200 votes. This was Angrimson’s fourth attempt at winning election to the School Board. He previously ran in November 2013, finishing fourth among four candidates seeking election to three open seats; in November 2015, when he finished seventh of seven candidates seeking four open seats, and most recently in the August 2016 special board election, when he finished third among seven candidates seeking to fill a single open seat.

Huusko, of Eagan, finished in fourth place with 1,530 votes. He was appointed to the board in 2011 to fill a vacancy, was elected in November 2013 and was seeking re-election to his second full term on the board in this election.

Unofficial vote totals for the other four candidates are as follows: Rebecca Gierok of Apple Valley, 1,513 votes; Daniel O’Neil of Eagan, 1,126 votes; Bianca Ward Virnig of Eagan, 1,003 votes, and Brian Buechele of Lakeville, 470 votes.

Four thousand eight hundred and eighty voters cast ballots in the School Board election, representing 5 percent of the 95,940 registered voters in District 196 just prior to Election Day.

Results of the election will be canvassed by the School Board at its Nov. 13 meeting. Newly elected board members will be sworn in at the Jan. 8 board meeting to begin their four-year terms, which run from January 2018 to January 2022.
