Two new technology systems are being implemented this year to improve learning for students and communication between school and home.
In July, the district switched to a new student information system. Synergy replaced the TSIS/SchoolView and Infinite Campus systems. Synergy’s ParentVUE portal provides parents with real-time access to school and district announcements, as well as student information such as class schedules, attendance and report cards, Parents can also use their ParentVUE account to update family contact information and make online payments via FeePay.
A letter with information and instructions on how to activate their ParentVUE account was mailed to all parents of middle school and high school students in mid-August. Parents of elementary school students received this information during literacy assessment days Aug. 22 and 23 at their child’s school. Any parent who did not receive this information should contact their child’s school about activating their ParentVUE account. For online assistance, go to District196.org and click on Parents to locate the ParentVUE support button.
The first time parents log in to their ParentVUE account, they will be asked to review information the district has on file for their family, including immunization records and emergency contact information. Parents must complete this review step before they can access their ParentVUE account.
In addition to the new student information system, this fall all middle school and high school teachers and students will be transitioning to Schoology, a new learning management system that provides a digital space for teachers to share information and resources with students and parents.
Schoology has a consistent dashboard layout for all users that offers different information and functions for teachers, students and parents.
Teachers will have a profile page with contact information and will use Schoology to post course materials and resources, announcements, assessments and assignments with due dates. Schoology also allows teachers to provide individualized feedback to students and opportunity for students to resubmit work when needed.
Students will use Schoology to access course materials, information and tools such as Google Drive, as well as for publishing their work and turning in assignments digitally. Students can also organize their work in one place and use Schoology’s calendar feature as a planner for keeping track of assignments and due dates.
Parents can access their children’s Schoology accounts to monitor assignments and can receive a weekly digest email with information on current grades, class announcements, and information on overdue and upcoming assignments.
